Waiblingen, 9/22/2022 | Company press release
The STIHL Group is accelerating its cordless strategy, with plans to also manufacture cordless products for professional use at its headquarters in Waiblingen, Germany. A production facility will be set up at STIHL Plant 2 in Waiblingen-Neustadt and is set to begin operations in 2024. Michael Traub, STIHL Executive Board Chairman, emphasized: “Almost 20 percent of all STIHL products sold worldwide are cordless. Cordless is our fastest-growing market segment and we are continuing to make significant investments in this future-oriented field. By establishing a new cordless product manufacturing facility, we are laying the groundwork to remain a leading player in the cordless market.” Martin Schwarz, STIHL Executive Board Member for Manufacturing and Materials, added: “The decision to manufacture cordless tools in Waiblingen is a clear commitment to our production site in Germany. We are expanding our production capacities for cordless tools and ensuring that our international production network can continue to effectively cover rising demand.”
The STIHL success story with cordless products began in 2009 with the launch of the first STIHL cordless products: The STIHL HSA 65 and STIHL HSA 85 hedge trimmers. The company – which produces not only the power tools but also the corresponding battery packs and chargers – continuously develops its cordless technology in terms of output, performance, and weight. The STIHL product range now comprises more than 50 cordless products for domestic applications and professionals.
STIHL develops the power tools, battery packs, and chargers at its own development center at the Waiblingen headquarters. STIHL cordless innovations continue to shape the market, such as the TSA 230 cut-off machine, the world’s first battery-powered cut-off machine. The latest product innovation from STIHL is the STIHL MSA 300 professional chainsaw, the most powerful cordless chainsaw currently available on the market. STIHL developed the AP 500 S battery pack especially for this saw. The battery pack offers outstanding performance at a low weight, as well as double the number of possible charging cycles, which significantly increases battery service life compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries.
A large number of STIHL cordless products are currently manufactured in Austria by STIHL Tirol. Other production sites for cordless power tools are located in the USA and, as well as Germany and China, will soon exist in Romania, where a new STIHL production site for cordless and electrical products is currently being built.
